The Founders Black Party
I’ll say the event was fun. $7 for a commemorative glass, and your first glass full of this years batch of Oatmeal Stout. It was a good time. I’d never actually been down to Founders before and I really like the venue. It’s in the old Brassworks building which is an older converted factory building with offices and well the brewery in it.
I’d say there were about 100 or so people there when we got there. Basically no tables were open, and people were standing everywhere, but you could still get around. Luckily there wasn’t a house band playing yet, so we could still talk at a reasonable level. The atmosphere there was good.
Now for the beer. Founders Oatmeal Stout. The pour to the glass was straight from the tap, not the best pour but I was impressed with the time it took for the head to form, and disappate. It had a nice light brown head about 1in. in width. The taste was good. Sweeter than a Guinness. It was a bit sweeter even I think than that Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout which I think to drink from time to time. The mouth feel was a bit thin. Most stouts I’ve drunk in the past have had a bit heavier mouth feel to them. This oatmeal stout was very full in taste, but thin in feel. I’d compare the feel to an ale. Definitly however I think I’d like to drink this one again. All and all, it was a good time, and a good beer.
