My Website is a Fake

March 9, 2008 – 10:30 am| By admin

Today, I got this e-mail from Review Me.

We are sorry but the website you have suggested http://www.fleeingthesocialscene.com has been declined at this time. The main reasons a website is declined are:

- The website is a suspected fake.
- The website does not have enough link popularity.
- The website does not have enough traffic.

*Please note that our algorithm that accepts or rejects inventory submissions can make mistakes and if you feel the above criteria does not accurately describe your website, please reply to this email asking for further review by our editorial staff.

My website is a suspected fake. Never mind the traffic and link popularity, but that line just cracks me up. What’s a fake website anyway? A site based solely on RSS feeds? A site where a blogger pretends to be something he’s not?

I’m not a fan of blogs that are based solely on other people’s rss feeds. It’s like taking a few chapters from different books and piling them altogether in one page with no compensation to the authors. I often wish rss feeds didn’t exist. It would take about a million pages of useless blogs off from Google and give us better results. It would give the original authors of the article a piece of mind and make it easier to spot the copycats.

But the blogging world is big on rss feeds. Feedburner has been acquired by Google, which means there’ll never be an end to them. People love spreading their web site’s content, for reasons I will never understand. It’s me against the world in this case.

New Ownership

March 7, 2008 – 8:23 pm| By admin

If you happen to come across a post mentioning my girlfriend, let me assure you that I am completely straight. I bought this blog from a fellow blogger, propstm, and we have some similarities and some differences, the most important difference being our gender. I’m a girl, and he’s a boy. Hence the girlfriend mix-up.

With new ownership of the blog, a lot of changes are underway. The first one being the ‘About’ page.

I’m fleeing the social scene? Well maybe not. This blog might be another wordpress blog, or maybe not? I’m a bit of a fly on the wall. I’m taking it all in.

I’m a 21 year old developer and (web entrepreneur and) college student. Also I’d like to think of myself as a bit of a networking ninja. I can’t even begin to explain how I’ve gained the contacts I’ve got. It’s kinda crazy who absolutely loves what she does. But I still make in a year what some of my friends make in a month.

The Frankenstein Zombie that is Fleeing the Social Scene:

  • 2 Parts Randomness Sleeplessness
  • 1 Part SEO Ideas
  • 1 Part Domaining Hard Work
  • 1 Part Web Design
  • 1 Part Web Entrepreneur

Shaken vigorously, served in a martini glass coconut shell with a slice of lime ice.

Oh feel free to contact me at propstm |at| gmail |dot| com here.

“If at first, the idea is not absurd, there is no hope for it.” - Einstein

The next big obstacle was to change every post that looked like this:

I’ve been a bit lazy, a bit busy, as of late.?? Basically my life has been hectic and I’ve neglected this blog.?? There I’ve said it.?? So today I’ve got a bit of free time so later in the day I’m planning a bit of cleaning up of lose ends.?? Hopefully I’ve got a bit of energy and can utilize the timestamp to breathe a bit of life back into this blog. I’m feelin’ optimistic??

Into a normal post without all those question marks. Apparently the problem was with encoding.. I was too lazy to spend 15 minutes to change the encoding in the database, so I spent 5 hours changing each post one by one.

With this blog, I hope to:

  1. Get RSS subscribers so I don’t feel like an idiot talking to myself
  2. Earn money, because my blog is mostly about earning money and it’d be stupid of me to teach everyone how to make money and be left hungry myself.
  3. Get a few of you to laugh, and some of you to giggle (depending on your personality).
  4. Teach you what I’ve learned over the past 3 years of working online, and the things I did that you shouldn’t do (like refreshing the page every minute on Amazon Mechanical Turk for an opportunity to win $0.01 in gift certificates. FOR A YEAR!)
  5. Inform you of the coolest facebook applications and wordpress templates and widgets which I hope you will use because 1) a facebook application is no fun if no one else is using it and 2) I am sick of reading your boring blogs with all text and no images. So in a way I am doing this for selfish reasons.
  6. Prove everyone wrong and let them know that working online is worth it. That means my friends, my ex-teachers, and even strangers. NO I WILL NOT GET A PROPER JOB! FOR NOW, THIS IS MY JOB.
  7. Lose a few pounds. I figured if I announce to the whole world that I’m a little on the fat side, it would bring more pressure to lose the extra pounds. And no, I’m not your stereotypical girl who will talk endlessly about how fat she looks. I happen to be a very quirky one, and if you happened to read this far, not such a rotten one either.

So hopefully this post has kept your interest enough not to delete me from your rss feeds been interesting enough to win you over as my rss subscriber. money making possibilities?

February 20, 2008 – 3:03 pm| By admin

Forums, Blogs, what else does everyone use? Myself, i’m experimenting with mass posting via timestamp on a few of my blogs. See if i can’t get a few of them to get some traction and grow a bit.

Also i’m thinking maybe Adsense will be a good fit for this project? Only time will tell.

Thank you Wordpress Timestamp.

September 17, 2007 – 9:00 am| By admin

Lately I’ve been busy. Honestly with school starting back up, it’s been a bit of a change of routine. I’ve had to now manage starting up a new forum, managing my current sites, keeping up with my blogs, oh and work and school! I think I’d be really going crazy if it weren’t for the Wordpress Timestamp. Yeah, this is really just another plug for the ever so useful feature. Really though, I don’t know how far behind i’d be without it at this point.

Oh and my girlfriend pointed me to dailypuppy.com last week.? That site is worse than drugs!? Don’t say i didn’t warn you.

July 26, 2007 – 7:38 am| By admin

I’ve mentioned the 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss in the past. Come to find out John Chow is giving away a copy of the book that’s been autographed. To get a chance to win the book all you need to do is head over to his blog and comment.

Good Luck!

8 Things You Don’t Know About Me

July 12, 2007 – 3:04 pm| By admin

I was just tagged by Derrich in his “8 facts post”. These have been fairly amusing. But can I top some of these guys who’ve already been tagged by the meme. Let’s do this, the first 5 were already posted a few months back when I was tagged by a similar meme.

  • Each player must post these rules first.
  • Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
  • People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  • At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
  • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

  1. 1) I accumulated 22 college credits taking dual enrollment while still in high school.
  2. It is very rare for me to sit down in front of a television and watch an entire show. This is usually limited to The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Office, or Robot Chicken.
  3. My first blog post ever was on a newly created LiveJournal account (back when you needed to be “invited”) on January 19th, 2002. I guess I’m nearing the 5 year mark of my blogging existence.
  4. I am a member of the West Michigan .NET Users Group Board. (I’m also slowly but steadily working on a new website for the users group)
  5. I was a Microsoft Student Ambassador for Grand Valley State University for the 2005-2006 school year.
  6. My first concert was a Beach Boys concert. (Well I think it was most of the original guys, I was fairly young, and I don’t quite remember the lineup.)
  7. I’m not a football fan, but I was at the Detroit Lions game on December 21, 1997 when Barry Sanders set the record for running 100+ yards in 14 consecutive games. (Oh and I also got into the locker room after to game thanks to family friend and then Lions tight end Pete Chryplewicz)
  8. The first computer my parents ever purchased for my brother and I to use when I was young was an Apple Macintosh Performa 6200. My parents still have the box, but now they use it to hold the cans that need to be recycled.

I’m passing this along and tagging the following:
